About

Jonathon is a self-taught woodworker driven by the beauty of wood and particularly the natural occurring faults within. His work is an ongoing exploration of how to best present the timber, trying to respect its nature whilst creating beautiful functional items.
Most of his timber is native to the UK and much of it is bought as single boards from tree surgeons when they fell dead or diseased trees.
Jonathon tries and allows the size and form of each board to dictate what he makes and to minimise waste. As he pushes to preserve and utilise more of each board, Jonathon has introduced resin casting using different pigments and additives to both stabilise and contrast the timbers.
His aim is to create work that invokes a desire to touch and to use rather than simply being admired from behind a glass case, as such.
Much of Jonathon’s work is sold to private individuals not as part of a collection, but as an everyday item to be cherished.
