About
Living on the edge of land and sea has had a profound impact on Julie Nelson’s 30 year career in clay. The perpetual drifts, continuous tides and eroded landscapes all inspire her forms and surfaces. Her studio sits close to the coast in Brighton.
Julie hand builds in stoneware weaving a path which reflects on her interest in anatomy, botany and landscape. She frequently fuses these influences into groups of objects that interrelate despite their contrasts.
Julie exhibits her sculptural vessels regularly at Garde in the US and Willer Gallery, WSJ Gallery and MAH Gallery in London.
The constant flow in nature has also inspired Julie to create projects with people who have migrated and to share her skills assembling installations that draw the focus back to the science of life. Flock project, a collection of bird sculptures and drawings, was recently exhibited at the Horniman Museum in London.
