About
Kim is a London-based artist metalsmith who creates intricate wall pieces, lighting and objects that imbue spaces with depth and soul. Drawing inspiration from historical ornament and sacred artefacts, her singular work is a synthesis of tradition and personal narrative, often incorporating antique objects to infuse each piece with a rich patina of time.
Kimâs practice spans the disciplines of metalwork, drawing and printmaking through a deep exploration of the ancient technique of intaglio etching – the âbiteâ of line into metal – which allows her to create the symbolically âchargedâ surfaces that sit at the heart of her practice.
Everything starts with drawing – it is central to how she works. Intricate, detailed drawing is with imagery and materials pulled from a personal archive of photographs, objects, and mark-making often collected from travels to sacred sites.
Ideas begin with historical and visual research and are then developed intuitively through a combination of drawing and making, assemblage and collage, carving and fabrication, patination, working and reworking.
The history of the making of each piece is valued – the marks and traces that are left on the work from the making process – for her they embody the heart and soul of the work. Scientific inquiry, spiritual wisdom, and folk traditions are all fused within these richly detailed artworks that invite viewers to embark on a journey of re-enchantment and contemplation.
Referencing ancient symbolism, sacred geometry and meditative motifs, these elegant collectorsâ pieces contribute to the creation of luxurious environments that nourish the mind and elevate the spirit.
Kim works on a commission basis and custom projects are welcomed.
