About
Lisa Katzenstein studied ceramics at the Central School (1976-79,) and at the Royal College of Art (1980-83.) She then set up a business as a self-employed tableware designer between 1984-1999, before working in the medium of maiolica ceramics.
She then pioneered new techniques and a modern style, not found in most folk orientated Maioilca tableware, with an emphasis on a modern aesthetic inspired by post war painting and prints.
Summing up the ethos of her work, her mission has been to elevate the status of floral decoration in ceramics. It is floral with a modern twist, with an emphasis on wild plants, once viewed as weeds but are now considered beautiful, a marker for our changing relationship with the land.
Lisa’s work has appeared in many books and articles such as in Ceramic Review’s “Potters on Pots” section in the May/June issue in 2022.
