About

Liu Kim (b. 1995, Seoul, South Korea) is a ceramic artist who graduated from

the Royal College of Art, London, where she was selected as a Deputy Vice-
Chancellor’s International Scholar.

Her practice reflects on how, in contemporary society, objects with
imperfections are often dismissed as lacking value. Through the materiality of
clay, she challenges this perception by embracing elements traditionally
regarded as flaws in ceramics such as tearing, cracking, and distortion as central
to her sculptural language.
While her work originates from traditional Korean ceramic forms, she moves
beyond conventional symmetry and the aesthetics of whiteness. By introducing
fractures, rough textures, and the unpredictable flow of glaze, she disrupts
established standards of beauty and reconfigures the formal possibilities
embedded within tradition.
In doing so, she reconsiders the value judgments inherent in the idea of
perfection and expands the boundaries of how it is perceived.
