About

Originally from South Korea, I spent much of my adult life in Los Angeles working in the film industry as an animator and visual effects artist before discovering ceramics and becoming captivated by its tactile and expressive possibilities. I am now based in London, where I work from my studio at Cockpit Arts.

After many years along the Southern California coast and frequent visits to Hawaii, I developed a deep connection with humpback whales. Their immense scale, distinctive forms, and barnacle-marked surfaces left a lasting impression on me, embodying wisdom, endurance, and a deep connection to the ocean.

The whale tale-shaped lid of this vessel broke during firing and was repaired using traditional kintsugi with brass. The golden seams highlight the fracture, reflecting both resilience and the fragile, changing state of the ocean.
