About

The human subconscious informs the intuitive design and making of my stoneware sculptures. Each piece is individually handbuilt by coiling, one of the oldest ceramic techniques. I work with stoneware clay bodies mixed with locally sourced materials, particularly London clay, flint and found iron, creating surfaces defined by natural tone and contrast. My studio sits within walking distance of an Iron Age pottery site that used this same clay; that shared material history and bond to location underpins my practice.

My interest in ceramics began in 2004 after visiting a Studio Pottery exhibition at Tate St Ives. What began as curiosity developed into a career change from medical diagnostics to ceramic sculpture. I now work from my own studio in West London, firing my sculptures in two self-built downdraught kilns.
