Marianne draws and paints from observation; scenes of people at work in North London, landscapes in Holland, and Italy. She works in woodcut, etching, and paints and draws in a variety of media. Her subject matter resembles that of the Japanese woodcut artists and she uses this initial work outdoors as inspiration to plan and create woodcuts in her studio.
