About

Matt Horne is a ceramic artist based in West Hythe, Kent (UK), known for his unique decorative porcelain pieces, which use hand-thrown challenging forms and crystalline glazes to create bold contemporary ceramics. Working primarily on the wheel, his practice combines technical precision with an emphasis on exploration, pushing the limits of porcelain through complex shapes and carefully controlled glaze processes. The demanding nature of crystalline glazes requires precise firing conditions and careful timing in the kiln, with crystal patterns developing during the process to produce distinctive surfaces that make every piece completely unique.

In 2025, Matt was awarded the Emmanuel Cooper Prize at Ceramic Art London. The award is supported by the Craft Potters Charitable Trust, and his winning work was donated to the ceramics collection at the Ulster Museum. He is also a Selected Member of the Craft Potters Association.
