Matthias Yong is a second-generation metal fabricator and craftsperson who has been working in Singapore’s metalworking industry for eight years. Following us engineering diploma and initial experience in the family’s traditional industrial business, Matthias founded Baremetalco as a transformative venture that elevates metal fabrication into the creative and artistic realm, bringing renewed value and appreciation to the craft.
Initially producing work for other artists and designers, Matthias expanded his practice in 2023 to take on direct commissions with full creative control for notable brands and clients in Singapore. His approach involves proposing innovative metalwork solutions tailored to each client’s specific needs whilst maintaining artistic integrity.
What distinguishes Matthias’s practice is his passion for experimental craft work and his unique position as both practitioner and innovator. Through Baremetalco, Matthias continues to push the boundaries for contemporary metal craft, demonstrating how traditional skills can evolve to meet modern creative demands whilst preserving the essence of artisanal craftsmanship.
