About

Hairul is a Singapore-based multidisciplinary designer, researcher, and cultural practitioner who bridges traditional heritage with contemporary creative technologies. He is the co-founder of B.RU Collective Pte Ltd and he operates at the intersection of culture, design, and strategic storytelling, collaborating with designers, communities, and institutions on concept driven projects that explore identity, memory, and place.

Deeply engaged with Malay cultural traditions, Hairul’s research centres on Dikir Barat, a performative art form rooted in rhythm, poetry and community expression. Through ethnographic fieldwork, co-creation workshops, and interactive prototyping, he develops systems enabling intergenerational knowledge transfer and sustainable pedagogy, creating everything from documentation platforms to tactile and digital learning tools for young practitioners.

Hairul creates interactive prototypes such as the Rabana Rhythm Board and real-time audio-visual installations that translate traditional drum patterns into immersive digital experiences.
