About
Nicholas Chee is a young, interdisciplinary artist and an aspiring curator studying at the University of Art, LASALLE in Singapore. His practise centres on working with cultural communities to document various forms of intangible cultural heritage, translating these through additive manufacturing processes. Through relational inquiry, he seeks to reinterpret overlooked cultural narratives and preserve traditional knowledge systems.
This project is borne out of years of observing and working with his grandfather, initially through the replacement or design and manufacturing of ornamental bone parts for his grandfather’s birdcages. Following his grandfather’s passing, the project serves as a way to commemorate and memorialise his grandfather and the latter’s craft.
