Coil Vase by Savannah, 17

Glazing by Evie, 14 and Thrive Inclusion Group

Savannah (17) is a dedicated and supportive member of Inspire Youth Zone. Since first attending as a junior member, she has grown into a confident young leader and now supports others during sessions, particularly within the inclusion programme across sports and arts activities. She is someone other young people naturally look to for encouragement and guidance.

For this piece, Savannah experimented with a coil technique in ceramics. Rather than planning a fixed outcome, she chose to see how the form developed as she worked, allowing the pot’s final shape to evolve naturally through the process.

After the piece was fired, Savannah collaborated with another young leader, Evie (14), to glaze and decorate the pot. Evie is a, intelligent, thoughtful and creative young person who has recently become a senior member. Through volunteering as part of her Duke of Edinburgh award within the inclusion sessions, she has been developing her confidence and communication skills while supporting other young people.

Evie led the decorative design of the piece, choosing to create flowers using the fingerprints of young people who attend the inclusion sessions. Each petal represents a different fingerprint, symbolising how every young person is unique. Together, the fingerprints form a collective design, reflecting how each individual contributes to the beauty and strength of the whole community.
