About
Emma Lawrence is a jewellery maker who works from her studio in London.
She studied Anthropology at University College London then undertook a Master’s degree to train as a librarian. After having children, she retrained as a primary school teacher and decided she needed a hobby.
Having always been attracted to jewellery and remembering her delight in discovering various bead shops as a teenager she took up beading. Emma learnt by trying, failing, and trying again, to recreate projects found in books by accomplished bead artists. Wanting to push her jewellery making further she went on to study traditional silversmithing techniques to develop the technical abilities that enable pursuit of her imagination.
Emma has found her making connects to her degree in anthropology with its wider understanding of adornment. Her fascination with beads allows for explorations in colour and pattern.
Wanting to share and express her joy of making she founded the brand Spangle Fandango in 2022. She was selected to take part in the Goldsmiths Getting Started Spotlighting programme in 2023, Shine 2024 and has exhibited with At Work Gallery, Gill Wing Gallery, and The Forge in London.
