About
Mayur and Tushar Vayeda are a contemporary Warli artist brother duo. They come from Ganjad, Maharashtra, India, the birthplace of Warli art, a thirty thousand-year-old Adivasi indigenous art form. Warli paintings are done on earth surfaces depicting vibrant narratives from everyday life to community dance to special celebrations. The form of the art comes from geometric shapes from nature.
Drawing from artist residencies across the world and especially Japan, the Vayeda brothers bring a new sensitive reflection to Warli painting, while remaining authentic to the origins of the style. In this exhibition, brought over from Bangalore to London by our sister gallery KAASH, Mayur and Tushar explore the idea of āemergenceā ā a narrative of the natural world growing from underwater, to the underground and above ground, with Warli expressions, for the first time, on corten steel.
