About

Yang Wenhuan is a representative inheritor of Bai embroidery. Deeply influenced by her mother from an early age, she developed a profound passion for embroidery.

Under her mother’s guidance, Yang systematically learned the art of Bai ethnic costume embroidery. By the age of eighteen, she had already mastered the entire traditional Bai clothing-making techniques of Diannan, demonstrating extraordinary talent and artistic creativity. Beyond crafting Bai attire, she excels in floral embroidery and has dedicated herself to the preservation of endangered traditional crafts. Many folk handicrafts, such as the Tuguo Hat, Crown Prince Hat, Paifang Scarf, and Purple Gold Crown, were on the verge of extinction, yet Yang successfully restored and reproduced these heritage pieces.

In 1982, she independently designed and created the first twelve-animal zodiac children’s hats. In 2010, she further revived and recreated the Crown Prince Hat, Paifang Scarf, Purple Gold Crown, Eight Trigrams Hat, and Child’s Lotus Picking Hat. Passionate about passing on and promoting the intangible cultural heritage of embroidery, she has welcomed students and researchers from universities across China, supporting folklore and cultural studies. Through workshops and training programs, she has actively encouraged more people to explore and experience traditional ethnic folk culture.
