About
Designer Bookbinders, in collaboration with Maggs Bros. Ltd, presents an exhibition of handcrafted bindings from Fellows and Licentiates of Designer Bookbinders. An opportunity to see, and possibly purchase, the work of internationally-acclaimed contemporary bookbinders, set in one of London’s most famous rare book stores.
Alongside this, a series of workshops by Fellows of Designer Bookbinders is being held at Cockpit Arts (Cockpit Yard, Northington Street, London, WC1N 2NP).
Photo Album/Scrapbook with Kate Holland
Saturday 9 October, 10.30am – 1pm or 2.30pm – 5pm, £60
Learn how to make from scratch a traditional hardcover photo album or scrapbook with sewn-in compensation guards to allow space for all your photos or ephemera.
Soft Leather Journal with Rachel Ward-Sale
Saturday 9 October, 10.30am – 1pm or 2.30pm – 5pm, £65
During this practical workshop, learn to make a leather-covered long-stitch journal (a non-leather option is also available): a great accessory for writers, artists, or anyone who wants to keep stylish notes.
Hardback Notebook with Mark Cockram
Sunday 10 October, 10.30am – 1pm or 2.30pm – 5pm, £65
Inspired by the work of Joseph Cornell and other collage artists, participants create and individually design their own ‘collaged’, hardbound, 192-lined-page notebook from pre-prepared materials (or bring your own).
The Art of Paper Folding with Midori Kunikata-Cockram
Sunday 10 October, 10.30am – 1pm or 2.30pm – 5pm, £50
This workshop introduces four ways of folding a single flat sheet of paper (such as an artwork or map) into a three-dimensional object. Participants use one of these techniques to make an artist’s book of their own.
