About

As part of London Craft Week, Plaisterers’ Hall opens its doors for a free public event celebrating the craft, heritage and future of plastering and lime working. Visitors are invited inside one of London’s largest and most impressive livery halls, offering a rare chance to explore this historic setting while discovering plaster as both a building material and a skilled craft with deep cultural roots and continuing relevance.

Visitors will be able to watch live demonstrations by highly skilled craftspeople, offering insight into heritage and conservation plastering, decorative and fibrous plasterwork, sculptural and artistic approaches, and architectural finishes and surface design. Traditional materials, including lime and pargeting, will feature alongside contemporary applications, showing how long-established techniques continue to shape modern interiors and public spaces.

The event is designed for a wide audience. No prior knowledge of plastering is required, and visitors are encouraged to ask questions, speak directly with makers, and gain a clearer understanding of the skill, patience, and creativity involved. Whether you are interested in historic buildings, craft processes, sculpture, or material innovation, the event offers a chance to see plaster in action in a stunning venue and to understand its role in both preservation and new design.

This open day reflects the Plaisterers’ Company’s ongoing commitment to sharing knowledge, supporting craftsmanship, and ensuring that plastering continues to be understood, valued, and practised for generations to come.
