About

DBR (London) Limited invites visitors to explore the craftsmanship behind the conservation of historic buildings, from Grade I, II* and II listed structures to significant 20th-century heritage. This year’s event will take place on Tuesday 12th at Broadwater Farm Estate, a post-war housing estate in Tottenham that has become an important example of London’s modern architectural and social history. The project focuses on the conservation of its iconic mosaic mural, offering a unique opportunity to engage with the preservation of recent heritage within a living community.

Through a series of talks, live demonstrations and a hands-on workshop, visitors will gain insight into the specialist materials, traditional skills and meticulous processes used by DBR’s conservation team. Attendees will learn how each section of the mosaic is carefully documented, cleaned and repaired with precision. Where damage has occurred, new tesserae are sourced and colour-matched to ensure continuity with the original design, maintaining both the visual integrity and historical significance of the artwork.

A highlight of the event will be contributions from Eniko, a mosaic artist and the latest recipient of DBR’s scholarship in partnership with QEST. Eniko will lead demonstrations and discussions on mosaic techniques and conservation, offering visitors a deeper understanding of this intricate craft and its role in preserving cultural heritage.

The conservation of the Broadwater Farm mural provides a meaningful opportunity for community engagement, allowing those connected to the estate to take part in preserving a shared history. Visitors will gain insight into how conservation can bring together craftspeople and communities, ensuring that stories, identities and local heritage are safeguarded for future generations.

Guided by its ethos, “Making sure the past has a future,” DBR continues to champion traditional craft skills while supporting the evolving conservation of both historic and modern built environments.
