About

Joanna Bird curates ‘A Fine Line: Modern Makers at Pitzhanger Manor’, a presentation of new works inspired by Sir John Soane’s aesthetic and architectural legacy.

Attend a special late-night reception for the exhibition A Fine Line: Modern Makers at Pitzhanger Manor on Thursday 16 May. Curator Joanna Bird is in conversation with artists Joseph Harrington and Gregory Warren Wilson. Together, they explore the intricate interplay between the disciplines of ceramics, glass and architecture and offer us a rare glimpse into the creative process behind new works inspired by Sir John Soane’s aesthetic and architectural legacy. Guests have the opportunity to explore A Fine Line: Modern Makers at Pitzhanger Manor, displayed throughout the manor house, before the talk begins.

On Saturday 18 May, join a tour of the exhibition with Joanna, exploring the connections between the artists on display and the architecture of Sir John Soane. This intimate event provides a unique opportunity to gain deeper insights into the inspirations that shape the works of Emmanuel Boos, Prue Cooper, Joseph Harrington and others featured in the exhibition.

The Guided Tour and Exhibition are free but included within the cost of General Admission to Pitzhanger. Adult tickets are £9.00 per person, and can be booked via the Pitzhanger website.

About the participants
Joanna Bird, an esteemed ceramics and glass expert, honed her craft under Michael Cardew’s tutelage, establishing her contemporary ceramics gallery in 1994. Over three decades, she has earned international acclaim for curating fine works acquired by museums and collectors. Joanna’s gallery features a diverse array of ceramic and glass artists, showcased at distinguished galleries, international art fairs and her own gallery.

Joseph Harrington, a sculptor specialising in cast glass, earned acclaim with awards such as ‘Best in Show’ at the 2017 British Glass Biennale and a gold medal at the Bavarian State Prize 2018. His work, acquired by institutions including the V&A Museum, is exhibited globally, including solo shows in the USA and participation in ‘Collect’ at the Saatchi Gallery, London.

Gregory Warren Wilson, an artist and prize-winning poet, explores the translucent nature of glass in his work. Using hand-cut tesserae in multiple layers, as well as larger abstract compositions, he plays with light’s spatial interaction. Sometimes inspired by poetry fragments, Gregory’s glass designs stand independently while alluding to their literary origins.
