About

Silverlining invites visitors to witness the transformation of leather from raw material into sculptural form, through a live demonstration of the techniques behind three pieces from Layers in Time, the studio’s debut limited edition collection.

Taking place in the Wemyss Gallery at Sotheby’s on Saturday 16 May from 3.00 to 3.30pm, the session will be led by Silverlining’s Leather Team Leader and will explore three distinct approaches to working with leather, each one used to create a different piece in the collection.
Visitors will see how over 1,200 individual leather offcuts are hand-applied and spokeshaved across a bio-composite structure to create the flowing surface of the Wave Console. They will observe how full leather hides are soaked, pressed and hydraulically moulded into sculptural form for the Chroma Mirror, before being hand-painted with water-based dyes using calligraphy brushes to build layers of colour and texture. And they will discover how hand-chasing, texturing and surface tooling are used to bring depth and movement to the Ripple Mirror, echoing the highlights and shadows of water in motion.

The demonstration is part of a week-long exhibition in the Wemyss Gallery, where all three pieces will be on display from 11 to 17 May 2026, each one exploring how traditional craft techniques can be pushed into new formal and sculptural territory.
