About

The term ‘trench art’ is often used to describe arts and crafts produced from materials available in the trenches of the First World War. However, art has been produced by soldiers for centuries. Objects as diverse as blankets, game boards, watercolours and embroidery have all ended up in the Museum’s collection, showcasing a rich tradition of crafting within the British Army.

Join curators Anna Lavelle and Mel Price as they examine the colourful world of soldier trench art by guiding you through an array of objects from the National Army Museum’s collections that are not normally on display. Get an exclusive look at the craft work and artistic abilities of regular soldiers from the Napoleonic period right through to the First and Second World Wars.

The event begins with a short talk from the museum’s curators before they move on to discuss the unique stories behind each of the objects on display.
