About

Petra is a Dutch ceramicist based in Italy, she brings a rich background in international fashion design to her ceramic practice. With a focus on fabric-and-knitwear design in her earlier career, her transition to ceramics is evident in her meticulous attention to mark making and surface decoration.

Endlessly curious and easily inspired, Petra draws from a diverse range of sources to inform her work. Whether it’s the delicate lichen in the forest, the tranquil ripples of a lake, or the weathered walls of Venice, each element finds its way into her ceramic pieces, resulting in a varied and captivating body of work.

Primarily handbuilt with occasional use of thrown bases, Petra begins her process with (reclaimed) grogged earthenware clay and her own mixed colored slips. From there, she embraces freedom in her artistic expression, incorporating imprinted patterns, added layers, random clay elements, folds, cuts, holes, and spontaneous brush strokes, following a maximalist concept.
