About

As founder and Artistic Director of the Xinxin Nanguan Ensemble, Wang Xinxin is widely regarded as one of the most important contemporary Nanyin musicians and is celebrated as the leading figure of Nanyin across mainland China and Taiwan. Born into a family of Nanguan musicians in Quanzhou of Fujian province, Wang Xinxin is proficient at fingering, reading notation, performing opera, playing several instruments and is especially famed for her singing skill. She is one of the few versatile musicians in Nanyin that has “occupied all five golden chairs”.

In 1992, Wang relocated to Taiwan and established Xinxin Nanguan Ensemble in 2003. Apart from continuing the tradition of playing pure and elegant music, Wang also worked diligently to promote the collaboration and innovation across various art genres and won international acclaim. Lin Hwai-Min, the famed choreographer, once made the following remark about Wang, “Before her appearance, we waited for her performance silently. Once she begins singing, we have no idea where we are anymore.”
In recent years, Wang has innovatively composed Nanyin music scores using “Xinxinti”, incorporating her interpretation on the art of Nanyin singing. Since 2020, Wang had been hosting the Solo Exhibition of Wang Xinxin’s Nanyin Composition under various themes and they were all well-received by the public. In 2023, Wang founded the Wang Xinxin Quanzhou Studio.
