About
Embracing traditional craftsmanship and timeless design, Araminta Campbell creates exceptional textiles that express Scotland’s natural beauty and weaving heritage. From their flagship atelier on the outskirts of Edinburgh, they handcraft their SIGNATURE collection of British alpaca accessories as well as offering MINTA, their contemporary limited-edition interiors line; CUSTOM, their custom tweed and tartan service; and HERITAGE, their newest unifying limited-edition collection that is an ode to the brand.
Their mission is to create articles of beauty that stand the test of time as well as helping to sustain the traditional skills, rural suppliers and talented craftspeople of the British Isles.
Each piece in their SIGNATURE line is unique, created as Araminta’s handwoven paintings. These one-off works of art are individually handmade in their flagship atelier with exquisite craftsmanship and care on traditional Geroge Wood dobby looms, taking between one day and three weeks to patiently make.
Using centuries of skills and expertise, once handwoven each piece undergoes a hand-stitched finish to create the tassels and boasts handwoven selvages on each side, adding strength. With enduring elegance and the quality to last a lifetime, every piece is hand washed, brushed and finished, adding to the exceptional softness of the fibre.
Just like their SIGNATURE pieces, their looms are handmade one-offs, created over 40 years ago by a master craftsman with only 307 being crafted throughout his career. Inspired by a motif or texture Araminta has seen in nature, the complexity of the SIGNATURE collection patterns are made possible by their unique looms. Unlike the majority of weaving that takes place on a maximum of 12 shafts, their traditional looms boast up to 24 shafts, enabling them to create patterns which are impossible to reproduce in the industry. With two of these residing in the atelier of Araminta Campbell, every SIGNATURE piece is handwoven on these exceptional looms.
Crafted from British alpaca, only the finest quality luxurious British Huacaya alpaca yarn is used in creating their SIGNATURE pieces. Bespoke spun to showcase the lustre of the fleece, each piece is woven in the 22 natural colours of the alpaca. One of the strongest and warmest fibres in the world ensures that pieces last a lifetime and can be passed onto future generations.
