About

Helena Bowen has lived in Devon all her life and works as a research technician but her love of horses has given her the drive to also take up ceramics in the footsteps of her father, Clive Bowen, and alongside her brother Dylan and sister-in-law Jane. Each of her ceramic horses is different, each has its own personality and she moulds the legs and body of each, working quickly and carefully, stretching out the clay and letting the horse dry on a handmade sling so that its feet did not buckle or bend. For Curator&Maker these horses evoke nostalgia, the countryside and all that ‘The Wind in the Willows’ evokes in its depiction of nature and life in the country.
