Hollie Ward for Kiosk N1C: Hand Weaving and Hand Spinning
Award-winning hand weaver and spinner Hollie Ward shows one-off pieces created from surplus yarn exclusively for Kiosk N1C. With live weaving and spinning throughout the week, learn about different fibres and try your hand at spinning.
About
Hand weaver and spinner Hollie Ward uses the Kiosk N1C space in King’s Cross as her workspace throughout London Craft Week. Bringing an eight shaft jack loom and Ashford spinning wheel to the space, this is a fantastic opportunity to watch an expert weaver in close quarters.
Having recently collaborated on a Kiosk exclusive range created from surplus yarns, Hollie is on hand to share tips and tricks on both the loom and the wheel.
Working predominantly with small production British and Icelandic wools in her practice, Hollie chooses to utilise deadstock and surplus as a way of redirecting otherwise wasted materials. Hollie believes that having an ethical practice is something that should be instilled within all of us naturally.
Witness first-hand the intricacies of the craft and see the impact material choices can have on the quality and feel of a work. On Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 October, there are a limited number of drop-in sessions available to try your hand on the spinning wheel and the loom. Each session is one-to-one and 45 minutes in length.
Hollie is an award-winning weaver originally from Hull and now based in South London. She was awarded the Cockpit Arts Textiles Prize 2021 and the Worshipful Company of Woolmen Award 2019.
