About

Various floral and decorative patterns have played an important role in traditional Turkish arts due to their symbolic meanings. These patterns were developed throughout Turkish history, reaching their golden age in the 16th century. The motifs appear on ceramics, glass, manuscripts, furniture, textiles, carpets, wood and tiles. Today, these patterns travel across the world decorating our belongings, and have gained new identities through the creativity of artists and designers.

Come to Yunus Emre Enstitüsü, London for a workshop to learn traditional geometric and floral patterns and create your own composition. Participants see how these patterns are composed and gain a practical understanding of traditional Turkish patterns.

Yunus Emre Institute (Turkish: Yunus Emre Enstitüsü) started operating in 2009 with the aim of promoting the history, culture and language of Turkey with collaborations, events and courses. The London branch of Yunus Emre Institute is hosting a series of workshops for London Craft Week. Please see yeelondon.org.uk/lcw for more details or contact londra@yee.org.tr.
