Curator&Maker features newly commissioned work from a range of designers and makers throughout the UK, curated by founder Georgie Rowse.

This spring sees the launch of their fifth collection. Based around the theme ‘The Wind in the Willows,’ the show is imbued with the freshness of childhood wonder but also filled with sophistication, substance and depth, evoking the arrival of Spring and the turning of the seasons in the English countryside, from the riverbank to the rolling open road. It is on show at Myriad Antiques in Holland Park, W11 from 15-22 May.

The show brings together nine makers from all over the British Isles (see our travels to meet them HERE) who between them have produced patchwork rugs handmade from upcycled tweed; flower collages; ceramic wild horses; linocut linen-bound sketchbooks; unique brooms and brushes; ceramic plates, jugs and teapots; willow trugs and baskets; wooden fishing stools; and hard-wearing and practical clothing and unique garden accessories in tweed and leather.

The makers have been inspired by days spent idling by the riverbank and watching the world go by; memories of a life full of cake at tea time and the soothing sound of the river running past, conjuring up a gentle, lyrical idyll; an escape to a magical landscape of days gone by.

The collection showcases reinvented traditional techniques and created contemporary work, every piece imbued with the spirit of making. C&M feel strongly that the physical show is the important moment where the maker can meet the buyer and the emotional connection between the two can be formed, the story told and the human touch translated.

As part of this event, Emma Bridgewater, internationally renowned ceramicist and passionate enthusiast for the hand-made, shares her curiosity about the motivation and practice of makers and their craft with basketmaker and former Principal Dancer at the Royal Ballet Bruce Sansom and brush-maker and TOAST 2022 New Maker Rosa Harradine, both participants in this year’s Spring Collection. The event will be seated within the antique shop. Wheelchair accessible but please let us know in advance if possible by emailing georgie@rowses.net
